Starting January 2027, H.R. 1 will go into effect. This law (Part of the One Big Beautiful Bill) requires certain Medicaid Expansion adults to work, go to school, volunteer, or participate in another defined qualified activity for 80 hours each month, or to have earned at least $580 in the month to maintain their AHCCCS coverage. Some people are exempt and will not need to meet these requirements, but many will be impacted and need to meet work requirements. Join us to discuss these changes and who may be impacted by them.
We’re celebrating the EXPO’s 5th anniversary this year!
Here’s a brief look back. Although the Weaver Mountains Health Initiative started in 2019, COVID and other priorities delayed the first EXPO until 2022. Some readers will remember the tight quarters at the Yarnell Fire Station for the first EXPO, and many will remember the wild winds of 2023 at the grounds of Model Creek Elementary School.
Since then, the EXPO has been held in the Model Creek gymnasium, with consistent improvements in the number of exhibitors and attendees. Through the EXPO, we have established relationships with over 40 health and wellness organizations. In addition, we participated in the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), both part of the Yavapai County Community Health Services programs.
WMHI has received grants from Ag West Farm Credit, Arizona Community Foundation, Arizona Public Service for its projects. Our Board of Directors includes representatives from Wickenburg Community Hospital, Yavapai County Community Health Services, U of A Center for Rural Health, and local health care providers (both active and retired). Workshops hosted by WMHI include Dementia and Alzheimers, benefits of CBD for sleep, anxiety and chronic pain; Narcan, and Home Health Care.
WMHI advocated for and promoted the monthly appearance of the WickCare Clinic in Yarnell, and partnered with the Yarnell Regional Community Center and Vitalant to offer blood drives. Our mission is fostering connections for healthy living in the Weaver Mountains. We hope to see all of you at this year’s EXPO.
