4th Annual Health & Wellness EXPO: Bigger and Better!

by Frances Lechner

Saturday, Sep. 20, 10 am – 1pm
Model Creek Elementary School

The fourth annual Health & Wellness EXPO promises to be even better this year!  Four mobile clinics will offer a variety of services, and over 30 indoor exhibitors will offer resources, contacts, and information.  Services will include vaccines (flu, shingles and Tdap), skin cancer screening, balance and glucose testing, breast exams (mammograms as well as physical checks).    New to the mix this year will be a Dump the Drugs booth, where you can bring your outdated prescription drugs for safe disposal.   Lunch is free while supplies last, and will be served from 11 – 12:30 pm. Drawings for door prizes will be held throughout the event.  Exhibitors will include local nonprofits and businesses as well as new regional resources.

Huge thank you to our sponsors:  Diabetes and Wound Care Centers of America, Wickenburg Community Hospital and Clinics, Legacy Hospice, United Health Care and Medicare Sisters.  All will have tables at the EXPO (and WCH will also have their mobile unit.)  Lunch is being sponsored by the Diabetes and Wound Care Centers of America.

ART CONTEST returns!  We’re encouraging all residents ages 6 to ??? to enter the art contest:  an original piece that somehow illustrates a healthy habit you have.  Three age group categories (6-11 years, 12-18 years, and 19 and over);  each category will have cash prizes thanks to the Wickenburg Art Club:  $100 for first place, $50 for second place, $25 for third place and $25 for People’s Choice awards.  Submit your art to the Yarnell Community Center on Friday Sep. 12 between 9 am and 2 pm; a WMHI representative will visit the local schools on Thur. Sep. 11 to pick up the art produced by students at those schools.  REMEMBER:  the art can be done at home; for young artists, it does not need to be a school project!  Each piece of art must be accompanied by a submission form available on our website:  HERE.

The Health & Wellness EXPO is the signature event of the Weaver Mountains Health Initiative, (WMHI)  a 501c3 organization dedicated to fostering connections for healthy living in the Weaver Mountains.  WMHI is launching a Telehealth Access Point (TAP) at the Yarnell Fire Administration Building, across the street from the Yarnell Hill Fire Memorial Park.  The Telehealth Project is made possible with w a grant from AgWest Farm Credit which offers various grants to support rural community projects and aspiring farmers. More information about the TAP Room will be available at the EXPO.
